Gastric cancer following highly selective vagotomy.
A case of gastric cancer occurring seven years after a highly selective vagotomy is described. This operation may not be the appropriate choice for the surgical treatment of gastric ulcers and H2 blockers should be used with caution in these patients.
متن کاملStudy of the Gastric Motility after Atypical Selective Proximal Vagotomy
During selective proximal vagotomy (SPV), atypical SPV (atyp-SPV) was proposed when either the anterior or posterior nerve of Latarjet was sacrified. In order to study the gastric motility after atyp-SPV , eight mongrel dogs on which SPV had been performed underwent atyp-SPV, with subsequent transthoracic truncal vagotomy (TV). These surgeries were performed at about 4 to 5 week intervals, and ...
متن کاملGastric emptying following vagotomy and antrectomy and proximal gastric vagotomy.
Gastric emptying of solid meals labelled with 129Cs was studied in patients for up to one year after vagotomy and antrectomy or after proximal gastric vagotomy. Significant delay was found one month after vagotomy and antrectomy but this had returned to normal by six months. No delay was found after proximal gastric vagotomy. The effect of posture on gastric emptying was also studied in the sam...
متن کاملVagotomy and Gastric Tumorigenesis
Vagotomy reduces gastric acid secretion and was therefore introduced as a surgical treatment for peptic ulcers in the 1970s. Later, it was replaced by acid reducing medication, such as histamine type 2 (H2) receptor antagonists and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). A large body of evidence has indicated that drug-induced hypochlorhydria per se does not increase the risk of gastric cancer. Early st...
